Does traffic spread like a virus?
If you watch traffic accumulate during rush hour, the congestion seems to spread virally to nearby streets. New research sought to apply the susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) modeling that is usually used in epidemiology to study the spread of traffic during rush hour. Join James and Charlie this week as they talk about this new paradigm for traffic and bemoan the fact that there is no vaccine for traffic in sight.
